How Playgrounds are Lighting Up Impoverished Communities

Literally.  This is actually one of the coolest projects that we have run across.  Basically, this organization–Empower Playgrounds–is working harness the power of play to generate and store enough electricity to power buildings.

What kind of school buildings you may ask? Schools.  Ben Markham, the former ExxonMobil VP of Engineering and current CEO of Empower Playgrounds, was looking to provide impoverished areas around the world with the resources necessary in helping children thrive and receive a great education.  He understood, however, that in order to do so he would have to find a sustainable solution for lighting their dark and poorly equipped education facilities and homes.

And, heck, I couldn’t think of a funner way to do it.
